Sunrise Tropicals is an online store specializing in discus fish. Based out of the San Francisco Bay Area, we have been importing discus from award winning breeders of Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia since 1989.

Our mission is to be a reliable source of quality discus raised healthy and right, and to provide our customers with valuable information on how to maintain healthy fish and fix any problems that arise. Healthy fish is key to enjoying this hobby.

Our process starts at the point of purchase from our breeders —with each spawn we carefully choose up to the top 30 fish. Unlike mass merchandisers, we do not carry large quantities of discus in stock, instead each individual discus in our facility is raised with the best possible care. We believe quality is more important than quantity.

All of our newly imported discus are fostered in tap water with a pH level between 6.5-7.3. Additionally, all of our newly imported fish are quarantined before they are put out for sale to prevent potential contamination.

At Sunrise Tropicals, we also emphasize that the fish you see is the fish you get. Many other discus websites only have pictures of adult discus, however, discus fish do not show their true coloration until maturity. This means the juvenile or intermedia discus you are buying may not look like the pictured fish at all. Here at Sunrise Tropicals, you’ll get a clear idea of what the juvenile or intermedia discus fish you are buying look like. We constantly update our site with actual discus pictures that reflect our current stock.

For our more expensive or larger sized discus, you may specify which fish in the picture you want to order. First come first served.

Your fish are guaranteed to arrive alive (see Policies). If you do not have much experience acclimating new fish, please let us know when placing a purchase order so we can help guide you.
